Newsletter month ofJuly and August 2005

These months are dedicated to outdoor business and family activities and I am learning everyday something new. In Germany, where I come from, Barbeque is not such a big thing. Maybe Germans grill a sausage or a cutlet on the grill, but it is quite limited what fries there on a German grill.
Here in the United States I started to see so many nice things, that can be done with a grill and I am learning how to do it.

In the mean time I am giving you a recipe for a German potato salad:

Cook some hard boiling potatoes ( I prefer the yellow ones)
Peel them and let them cool off, then slice them.

Marinade:
Put some hot water in a bowl (about ¼ cup depending how many potatoes)
Some sugar, salt, pepper, one minced onion and some minced baby dills.
Add some vinegar and let the sugar dissolve, taste it (shout be a little on the sweet/sour side.

Now put the potato slices into the marinade.

Bring an egg or two (depends on the number of potatoes) in a bowl and beat it. Put a little olive oil into the egg mass. Now pour it over your potatoes and mix the salad carefully.

Guten Appetit!

For Tom and me July and August is visiting time in Germany. We will meet friends and family in our hometown. It will be a lot of fun, one thing on the program is cooking of course. My old cooking friends (all chefs in Germany) are coming together to try something new. I will try and introduce an American dish from Boston: “ “Boston Crab cake” on salad.

Have a nice summer, see you at the Utah State fair were I will cook on Saturday the 10th of September at 5:30 pm. I will introduce a potato cake (German, Austrian and Swiss specialties) Kids love it with apple sauce, Dads with bacon and Mom’s with vegetables.

If you have a question about my recipes, feel free to ask me via email. I will try and answer as soon as possible.

Your personal chef
